Question

How do you configure an Oracle tnsnames.ora file for each project on your DataStage server?

Answer

TNS_ADMIN is an Oracle environment variable that sets the location of the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora configuration files.

You can define TNS_ADMIN at the project level and set it equal to a directory that contains the tnsnames.ora file.

You will need need one directory per project.

To help you confirm that your configuration is correct you can perform the following steps:

1) Check the detailed job log to confirm that environment variable TNS_ADMIN is set to the directory containing the tnsnames.ora file that you want to use.

2) Make sure that the server name is the name used in the tnsnames.ora file that is located in the directory specified in step 1) above.

3) You can test your connection outside of DataStage by setting the environment variables TNS_ADMIN, PATH, and LIBPATH (or equivalent) at a command prompt and then invoking sql*plus to connect to the database.
